For my birthday I decided to make a structured dragon cake.

I liked how it turned out but there is room for improvement.
First I started out making my cake board, by measuring my fridge and cutting out a board that would fit. then i sanded it all and added the legs and the center Dowel. There are several ways to make cake structures but since this be my first I choose to keep it simple.
Then I glued cake cartoons to the board and taped it up with aluminium tape, and my cake board was ready to use.

After some mistakes while learning, I got my structure totally ready and the first part of the cake in place.
The main part is cake but all the details is cake pop. Here you can see how i assembled the cake and made the details such as the belly and facial features out of cake pop.
As for the big lips, i regretted make them so bulky. It looked good on the crumb coated cake but when I started to decorate it and color it. It was a big mistake. Note to self keep it simple.

Unfortunately I was pretty tired at this point and did not get much footage of the decoration process. But here you can see me being busy making the scales for the dragon. It took a ton of time first to make them, then to find the correct pattern, then glue them all until finally paint the whole thing.

Bit by bit I got it covered.
The cake became much bigger than I would have liked thus all the extra work. On this pictured the cake is with the corrected lips, the error is still quite visible since I was not able to achieve the color that I used for the rest of the face.

Here you can see how the lips literally take over everything. It did not work and I had to redo it.

It was evening and with no photo setup I was desperately trying to get some light. Juni was keeping a eye on it all.
And finally the result. I was happy with it all in all and I learned something new. The structured cakes are here to stay.
